Touching the Sky – Tocando el Cielo

Finished these two a week ago but didn’t have time to take the photos before I went away.

Terminé con estos dos hace una semana pero no tenía tiempo para hacer las fotos antes de irme de viaje.

They’re great Cherry! They will be lovely as a pair, echoeing the circular movements (a wave continueing from one into the other) and complementing each other. I can’t believe I didn’t notice that before…..and the opposites..night and day, light and dark, above and below. Just beautiful!!!

  2. Thank you so much Robyn:-) Yes, you really only notice those things when they are side by side and I haven’t posted them that way before. I enjoyed working on the two together and working portrait as well was a change.

Now I’m starting to look for images for the next ones…I think I will work on two again together although they won’t be complementary the way these are.

  3. I love this series, wildcherry. I wonder did working with the folk tale have effects on your life in other ways?

Thanks for stopping by, June. Since the story is partly about creativity its not surprising that working with it is having a big effect on how I feel about my art,

I’ve touched on this quite a bit as I’ve gone along, so if you dig back in my blog you can get a blow by blow account!

As I completed the first two paintings in the series I had revelatory dreams about the meanings of the corresponding chapters in my life but so far this hasn’t happened with these two but that might be because I have had a lot of worldly stress that has been directing my subconscious elsewhere. Having said that, a few days ago, I did have a fairly revelatory thought – which I can’t really discuss here – about the meaning of these paintings so perhaps I don’t need the dreams 🙂

I aggree with what the others have said here. They complement each other very well. Actually I think they are interesting to look at even without knowing the story of the Handless Maiden, the image of someone diving down and reaching up is powerful enough to inspire its own story in one´s imagination.

When I read the story (it´s been a good while, it needs a re-reading) I remember thinking that there wasn´t as much meat on this part as the beginning. But now I realize that what happens midway is inner work for the maiden, finding her own way and own strength. I think that is illustrated by the backgrounds being filled with threads/growth and less by other characters.

Just as well as the link with the HM atthis point is tenuous to say the least!

I like your interpretation of how the Maiden is seeking within rather than without, Heidi:-)

Cherry, it’s ditto what everyone said. They work so well together, it’s almost as if they were one piece, a yin/yang that encompasses it all. Beautiful imagery and superb execution. And the coloration- yum!

  8. Thanks Lin:-) Its the first time I’ve worked on two pieces side by side like this and it was a very dynamic and enjoyable experience.
