Finding the thread – Encontrando el hilo

Last week was full of worldly concerns that left me virtually no time for art-making. I snatched a few moments to do this little watercolour one evening and mixed up some colours for my collages but that was about it. Moving Away

I realise that with each piece I am moving further away from literally interpreting the Handless Maiden story. Accepting this, it seems easier to follow my chosen path and I am able to worry less about the absence of certain characters or scenic elements in the pieces.

I had begun to feel like I was just prevaricating but I kept telling myself all week that, whilst I desultorily sketched a few ideas, searched magazines and the net for image-clues and wrote little notes to myself about the meaning of these sections of the book, my subconscious was working hard on coalescing the ideas for the next two paintings. Pacing

first draft idea handless maiden/doncella manca 3-4I’m beginning to recognize the phases of my creative process like landmarks on a familiar walk. This is really helpful as although, at times, I might be going through a dark tunnel or across a bit of waste-ground, at least I know that I’ve been here before and I always manage to get across safely.
